Boyfriend’s ex is working obeah on me

March 10, 2026

Dear Pastor,

I have decided to write to you about a problem. I have been going with a man for the past nine years.

We do not have children together, but we started to have a relationship when I had five children for two different men. He has two children with another woman. They didn't get along because he said she did not treat him well. He walked out on her and started to visit me. After work, he would come straight to me for dinner. Then he started to sleep over; then he brought his dirty clothes for me to wash. We started to sleep together and before I could catch myself, the man moved in on me.

My five children were here and I told them the situation, but they were young and didn't have a big say about what I should do. When his children's mother realised that he was living with me, she came to my gate and cursed me and told everybody that I had worked obeah to get this man from her. He had paid down on a piece of property and had her name on it but he cancelled the deal. He used to take me to the supermarket every Saturday and started to introduce me to his friends. His children's mother went to his workplace and complained to his boss who told her that he could not do anything about it.

The man started to put on a little weight and people say that I have given him big belly by feeding him bad food. When she could not get him back, this woman joined a church and the leader told her how much money she would have to bring for her to get this man back. She took him to court and was behaving as if he was not supporting his children, but he was able to prove that he does.

This man and I are still together, but we are not yet married. I don't know if I should marry him because I do not want bad luck to follow me because his children's mother believes in evil and she is working obeah on me daily.

A.J.

Dear A.J.,

You know you have not done anything bad like working obeah on this woman. Perhaps what you are guilty of is giving this man good loving.

This man and you have been living together for a while and he now wants to marry you. Please tell me why you would not marry him. The obeah business is foolishness. Come up with a better reason than that.

Make sure that you do not have this man spending all his money that he earns on your children. He should save and invest. Every man needs to put away something for the rainy day. Make sure he does so. Please let me hear from you again.
