JC beat KC to sweep ISSA Corporate Area U14, U16 titles
Jamaica College (JC) secured the Corporate Area ISSA Burger King Under-16 and Under-14 football titles, as they upstaged favourites Kingston College (KC) in both finals at Stadium East on Wednesday.
In the feature Under-16 final, JC registered a 2-1 victory. Earlier, following a 1-1 regulation-time draw, JC won 3-2 on penalties for the Under-14 title.
Winning Under-14 coach Wayne Palmer, who returned to the helm after being sidelined for two years due to cancer treatment, was happy to reclaim the crown.
"I have to give KC props because they came out and tried. My team Jamaica College did not come to lay down and die and it was an end to end game," Palmer said.
"In the first half Kingston College had most of the game, and I told my team at half time that teams will have their moments, so when you get your time, make sure you make use of your time."
Owayne Feurtado scored his 19th goal of the season to fire KC in front after 46 minutes.
That lead was shortlived, however, as Namar Francis (51st) equalised moments later to send the game to penalties. JC then emerged 3-2 winners from the shootout.
In the feature match, Jamaica College with goals from Tevin Savage (11th) and Emanuel Donalds (80th+4) saw JC to the Under-16 title. Davion Clarke scored for KC.
DID HOMEWORK
JC's Under-16 coach Raymond Watson said were always confident.
"We did our homework and based on what we did against them the last game I thought they would have come and done the same thing. I was quietly confident we would have won the game," he said.
Savage put JC in front when he was given space to fire an unstoppable shot past the KC goalkeeper from 28 yards.
The Dark Blues added a second goal late in the match when Donalds slammed a shot into the roof of the net, after a defender lost possession in the half.
Clarke pulled a goal back in added time, but it was too little too late.
KC's coach Jermaine Miller said JC executed better on the day.
"We expected them to come out and play like that. But the goal made the difference. We created the chances but they were the better team in terms of how they executed on the day," he stated.
Watson said it was pleasing to lift both titles.
"Coach (Wayne) Palmer, I told him congrats before he played and Under-14 game and congrats after he won. After my game he said congrats and that youth football is our thing."
