Christopher Martin Foundation brings hope to children hit by Hurricane Melissa

November 04, 2025

Children in Trelawny who were left shaken by Hurricane Melissa are getting a dose of comfort and care, thanks to the Christopher Martin Foundation and the Bright Beginnings Charity Group.

It was announced in a press release that the two teamed up for the "Bringing Hope" initiative, a youth-led project aimed at helping children displaced by the storm. More than 200 children between the ages of 10 and 16 from Zion, Kinloss, and those temporarily housed at Holland High and William Knibb High Schools received relief packages and emotional support.

Founded by Campion College students Kris-Sarai Martin and Anna-Lyssa Cooke, Bright Beginnings joined forces with the foundation and several corporate partners to hand out over 300 care packages. Each package included hygiene kits, snacks, juices, clothing, and comfort items. Children also received hot meals, medical assistance, and access to phone charging stations.

Christopher Martin, the international reggae and dancehall star, said he was heartbroken by the scenes of destruction across Jamaica. "It broke my heart to see the reports and images of the destruction our brothers and sisters are facing. Jamaica is my home, and when I see our people suffering, especially our children, it hits me to my core. I knew I had to help," he said.

Martin praised Kris-Sarai and Anna-Lyssa for their leadership. "When they came to me with their idea to focus on children who might be overlooked, I was ready to support them. Our children are our future, and it's our duty to teach them how to care for each other. These young ladies are proof that compassion and leadership start early," he said.

The foundation thanked all volunteers and sponsors who made the outreach possible, including Hyundai Jamaica, Digicel Jamaica, Wisynco Group Limited, Big Yard Studios, and Tango Entertainment.

Christopher Martin will also be one of the headliners for the national Hurricane Melissa Virtual Concert and Telethon on Sunday, November 16. The event, part of the "I Love Jamaica" series announced by Culture Minister Olivia "Babsy" Grange, aims to raise US$1 million to support ongoing recovery efforts.
