Christopher Martin delivers ‘Stronger’
Reggae/dancehall singer Christopher Martin has spoken life and hope into the survivors of Hurricane Melissa through his new single, ' Stronger'.
"Is one a dem song deh I didn't have to think hard on, because I just saw everything in front a mi - the devastation, people being displaced, people being cut off from communities, family members unreachable. It was like a no-brainer. Mi feel suh down inna mi spirit, mi could a hardly guh pon social media, mi neva have no vibes. I'm not a very 'down-energy' kinda person, suh fi feel that way within miself, with all these emotions, it was the only way I could show it by writing that song, and mi just put mi emotions into music," the Stormy Weather artiste told THE WEEKEND STAR.
Martin said the lyrics for the Dretegs-produced single came to him immediately after the hurricane struck and right away he shared it on social media, which sent the clip viral, and supporters asked for its release. The official audio is available on the producer's YouTube page.
"I hope it provides hope and some semblance of order within people's lives, so they can understand that possessions are all gone, but yuh still have life. The storm might think it's won, but the victory is ours. Suh just gather strength, man, and get some encouraging vibes from it; and if yuh don't see me in person, yuh know mi voice a tell yuh seh 'Keep yuh head up 'cause yuh have life, so there's hope,'" he advised.
The singer, who was seen at the recently held I Love Jamaica Telethon and Virtual Concert, also shared that the genesis of the concert was initiated by him, following a direct call to the entertainment minister, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, with his request.
"Mi tell her seh mi waah di stadium and all proceeds go towards the Hurricane Melissa efforts. I just felt like mi waah duh sup'm, and what I could do is provide my talent, and this beautiful show came from it and so I'm happy," said Martin.
The show, which also hosted other performers such as Tanya Stephens, Tarrus Riley, George Nooks Alaine and Ding Dong, captured an electric evening of energetic performances wrapped in a spirit of giving.
