Hydel High’s Nastassia Fletcher dominates Class One 400m finalists
Hydel High's Nastassia Fletcher sent an early warning to her rivals the National Stadium, gliding to a smooth 52.92 seconds and stamping her authority on the Girls' Class One 400m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Championships.
Fletcher, who won the event last year in Class Two, is a strong favourite to take gold. She was the only athlete to dip below the 53-second barrier in the semi-finals.
She will be joined in the final by Holmwood Technical's Abrina Wright (53.08), Kelly-Ann Carr (53.67), Immaculate Conception's Davine Dickenson (53.67), Excelsior High's Breana Brown (54.15), Holmwood's Kristen Herbert (54.40), and Edwin Allen High's Shanique Cassanova (54.43).
Fogo Road High's Shameika McLean produced an impressive performance to lead all qualifiers into the final of the Girls' Class Two 400m. McLean, the reigning CARIFTA Under-17 champion, clocked 52.52 to book her spot and is the only athlete in the field to go below 53 seconds.
McLean will be joined in the final by Holmwood Technical's Annastacia Hall (53.29) and William Knibb Memorial High's Daniella Dixon (53.49).
Also advancing to the final are Hydel High's Sashana Johnson (54.12), Immaculate Conception's Kimberly Wright (54.29), Holmwood's Maddison Campbell (54.86), and Edwin Allen's Khalila Lewis (55.08).
In Class Three, William Knibb's Khortnie Eccleston and Hydel's Tyecia McDonald lead all qualifiers into the final of the Girls' 400m after both clocking 55.41.
They will be joined by Holmwood's Malya McClennon (55.64), Alpha Academy's Sha-Jay Davis (56.80), Hydel's Shaneil Henry (55.82), and Knox College's Tawaina Marston (56.37).
