Dockery makes successful start to pro career

Former Lacovia High School athlete Sabrina Dockery made a successful start to her professional career. Looking very smooth and relaxed while showing great improvement in her running form, she sped to an impressive win on Saturday in the women's 100m at the 25th staging of the GC Foster Classic in Angels, Spanish Town.

Dockery, who sped to a quick 11.08-second win at the ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships in Class One last year, won going away in a season-best 11.13 seconds, running into a negative wind of 0.9 metres per second. The next best time came from Mickaeila Moodie of GC Foster College, 11.69, with third going to Titania Lowe, also of GC Foster College, in 11.78.

Kadrian Goldson of Sprin Tec dominated the men's 100m. Running into a negative wind of 1.1 metres per second, he clocked 10.31 to finish ahead of teammate Odaine McPherson, 10.33, and Rasheed Foster of The Mico University College, 10.34.

Former St Andrew High School quartermiler Janiel Joseph, representing MVP Track Club, topped the women's 400m with 52.87. Shian Salmon of Sprin Tec was second in 53.17, with third going to Anthonique Strachan of MVP in 54.03.

Jeremy Bembridge of Racers Track Club dominated the men's one-lap event, winning in 45.62 ahead of the Titans Track Club duo of Assinie Wilson, 45.64, and Malik James-King, 46.26.

LAST CHANCE

With a week to go ahead of Champs, and in what was a last chance for some athletes to attain the qualification standard, several of those athletes showed good form on Saturday.

Defending Open 400m hurdles champion Kelly Ann Carr of Edwin Allen High looked relaxed in winning the event, clocking 59.02 seconds for the win ahead of the UTech duo of Annalice Brady (59.81) and Deandre Harris (1:00.14).

Former Edwin Allen sprinter Theinna Lee Terrelonge, now competing professionally for Uptimum Track Club, won the girls Class One 200m in 23.12 ahead of Abrina Wright of Holmwood, 24.26, and Shanique Cassanova of Edwin Allen, third in a personal best 24.46.

Edwin Allen's athletes dominated the half-lap event in classes Three and Four. Fresh off her good form at the Carifta Trials in the Under-17 100m hurdles, Tashana Godfrey won Class Three in a personal best 24.17 ahead of teammate Adrianna Pine, 24.48. Monique Bogle won Class Four in 25.06 ahead of Breana Gray of Excelsior, 25.65.

Abbigail Bennett of Merl Grove was an impressive winner in the girls Class One discus, with a throw of 48.22m ahead of Rehanna Biggs of St Jago, 42.82m, and her teammate Jessica Thompson, who was third with 39.03m.

Among the males, Joseph Salmon of Jamaica College stood out with a throw of 59.09m to win the boys' Class One discus ahead of Kingston College's (KC) Nkogoma Obafemi Johnson, 57.30m, and Dylan Logan, 57.02m.

Rasheed Grant of St Mary High captured the boys' Class One 800m in 1:53.62 ahead of Alejandro Palmer of KC in 1:56.40.

Markland Williams of Denbigh High won the boys' Class Two 800m, clocking 1:57.87, with Keneil Daniels of Excelsior second in 1:58.40 and Antuwan Newland of Holmwood third in 1:58.50.

Edwin Allen's boys had a quinella in the Class One 200m with Kenrick Anderson winning in 21.25 ahead of Romario Finnegan in 21.38. Kenrick Sharpe of St Mary High was third in 21.48.

In the Class Two 200m, Taheem Thompson of Edwin Allen won in 21.99 ahead of Ched Brown of Calabar High, 22.41.

ADIDAS DONATION

On Saturday, several schools, especially those from central and western Jamaica who were affected by Hurricane Melissa, were awarded $500,000 from the main sponsor of the meet, Adidas. Those schools were Holmwood Technical, Black River High, Lacovia High, Alphansus Davis High, Manchester High, Herbert Morrison Technical, Rusea's High and Petersfield High. G.C. Foster College also benefited.
