University student faces murder charge
Detectives attached to the St Andrew Central Criminal Investigative Branch have detained a tertiary university student for questioning in relation to a murder committed in the division.
This was disclosed on Thursday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, following a habeas corpus application by the detainee's attorney. The 20-year-old male was taken into custody on November 29, sometime after midday, but did not undergo a question-and-answer session. He is a suspect in a murder which was committed on November 7.
According to the divisional detective inspector, who was present in court, the detainee could not be facilitated in a question-and-answer session as the investigator in charge of the matter had to be present at a post-mortem. However, another question-and-answer session is to be scheduled this weekend.
Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque adjourned the application until Monday, December 5, when the detectives are expected to give an update to the court, whether the subject has been charged, or whether more time is required for their investigations.
